I'll not forget what happened to Morgan. I became interested when I first read the story about her not coming home from the concert. I was following it out of interest. I followed the dots on the maps and even developed some theories. I searched the sex offenders database and looked at alot of pictures. I've wanted to help solve it. Along the way I've read your words and you've shared your feelings in a way that I won't forget what happened.
-
I've done some research and tried to consider similar crimes, similar in that a murderer was not found right away. Before I read about Morgan's murder I had been reading about the murder of Kathy Engle in Oklahoma. It was a murder of a 40 year old women, mother of two, that remained unsolved for 23 years. The cold case was solved by DNA evidence linking the murderer and putting him right there 23 years ago.
-
She was abducted by two men, sexually assauted and murdered. Her body ws found in a remote field in Sayer Oklahoma. The man Kyle Eckhardt was convicted. They found that he was a drifter up and down the interstate, met up with another man and abducted this poor woman who was going to her car in the shopping mall. The other man died in a truck crash in Virginia. Both had criminal records.
-
In my research of cases I read another case where a 30 year old man Todd Stewart was murdered in the early morning. His murder remained unsolved for 9 years until a 74 year-old man, dying from pancreatic cancer, decided to confess in his hospital bed. The victim's mother finally found out that Todd was shot because this man pulled over in an act of road rage and shot him, leaving him to die in a parking lot. I thought how selfish this man was, and he only confessed to relieve his own guilt.
-
There are common circumstances and there are cases that are solved. The motives seem to be depravity of the perpetrator and opportunity in sexually motivated murders and just bad timing with random or impulsive murders. Alot of bad things happen between 9 PM and 5 AM. Most early morning crimes are related to drinking and drugs taken during the late hours and early morning. The sexual assaults that take place at night are when a perpetrator is looking for a situation to commit the crime when most people/witnesses are not on the streets, but if spotted won't draw too much attention as would crimes committed after midnight in the open.
-
We all know that people who drink start after work around 6 PM. That's why most problems, drunk driving or assualts occur between 9-11 PM and then again between 2-5 AM when the bars close. The alcohol attracts people with problems and affects judgement. Someone once told me that bars are places where people with problems go to start problems with other people.
-
I've even thought about how the local establishments around where people are abducted come into play. Something a killer normally does, a place they would go, whether it is leaving his car and going on foot. This relates to the Fairfax assault where the victim was walked up upon. It's possible this perpetrator parks nearby an then walks on foot. The person(s) who murdered Morgan likely were noticed, whether it was prior to the abduction or afterwards.
-
Even in Todd Stewart's case they had a witness who saw a pickup truck tailgating his car, though the person did not have the tags. In Kathy Engle's case there was a witness who saw 2 men force her into her car at 7:50 PM. It had just turned dark.
-
I think Morgan's murder will be solved because of the DNA evidence. Something as quick as a cotton swab that will put that monster right back in that field and into a set of handcuffs. I know that won't bring Morgan back and I'm truly sorry that it won't.

Dear Harrington family....your blog takes my breath away as always. As we see stories involving people like Sean Michael Horn coming out in recent days, it's clearer than ever that predators are roaming at will. I do wonder about the description given in Morgan's case, and the DNA recovered. Sean Michael Horn resembles the sketch, only he is a white male while the suspect drawing depicts a black male. DNA can be used to determine race and I hope they have done this, on the off chance that they have the racial issue wrong. I still believe Morgan's killer will be caught and on that day I will be here rejoicing in seeing that chapter closed. Blessings to you and your wonderful, strong, beautiful family.

I totally agee w/ poster #1. Sometimes fresh eyes can solve the case. As I see my daughter grow and make her way away from us, I think of Morgan and how she would have grown and gone her own way to make her mark on the world. Prayers and thoughts all these years away from that awful night. God bless your famil and may her killer be brought to justice soon. I truely believe that whatever goes around comes around.

I can't imagine what you have gone through these 3 years. I still want justice for Morgan. It will help knowing the murderer(s) are off the street.
The familial DNA will definitely help if it gets passed and especially if everyone is being checked as they are apprehended for any crime.
I was thinking that the assault in Fairfax had similiarities to timeframe and maybe other clues. Both crimes occurred around darkness 9:30 PM and both victims were females alone and walking. And I thought about this and read what was available on the Fairfax assault. It occurred near a Giant shopping center. The last known report on Morgan was the Copley bridge which was in the vicinity of the Ivy center.
Here's my thoughts that the police should check. I think he had a car. Maybe he parks in a shopping center and walks on foot. He certainly did this in Fairfax. On foot he is looking for someone alone, vulnerable, at night. He walked up on the woman in Fairfax. Maybe in Morgan's case it had no relationship to JPJ or the Abermarle farm. He could have driven up and down the highway in VA looking for a shopping center that appears like a place to park and walk around.
So, the police should check the parking lot surveillance tapes. Maybe they see someone pull up and leave their car alone there.
I don't think he's from the area where her body was found. I know they talked about all the obstacles on the farm, but I was thinking when someone is pumped on adranaline or drugs that probably doesn't matter.
I still don't understand how Morgan's shirt appears on a bush. Unless that indicates where the initial assualt occurred. I really think the police should have released more information quickly. I know that they hold information purposefully to test suspects and have information only the killer would know.
I really think the DNA is the answer and if there is hope to find the killer that is one positive in this tragedy.

Many Prayers spoken for you today as you travel to Richmond to speak before the Virginia Crime Commission in support of HB2490 . I pray that the recent ugliness of Penn State will have planted a seed into their minds of how an Institution can very easily put the Institution's needs above One person & that laws should protect each & every person who has been harmed ... not give the University a cloak of protection & in essence placing & leaving the victims out in the cold.

I forgot to mention that I was glad to see the lawsuit against the security firm of JPP. The security firm never did produce a video which many people believed was a cover up. They were negligent for not providing the assistance to Morgan. Also, the police are always closed lip with any evidence.. sometimes that actually hurts the case as the trail gets cold. All the stuff about the t-shirt and necklace should have came out quicker just in case somebody saw something right afterwards.

Hi. I started following the murder of your daughter when it first was in the news. They will eventually find the person(s) who are responsible. You may be interested or have heard of the case of Kathy Engle who was murdered 25 years ago. That cold case was solved just 2 years ago with DNA evidence. It turned out the perpetrator did not act alone and was a drifter up and down the I45 interstate in the midwest; hitching rides in trucks. Most of the time these sick people are looking for the right opportunity. They end up having no real motivation as to why they chose the victim other than opportunity. People understandably always wants to know why their child or loved one was picked, but these folks are depraved beings.

I don't come here to read as often as I used to but when I do it makes me so sad.... I have a daughter who will be 25 next February and I can't imagine living without her or her brother (22). I hope the person who did this is arrested soon but in the meantime I hope he is living his own hell.

Dear Gil,

Our journey in finding Morgans killer is not over yet. He/she still walks the streets and enjoys freedom and life.

Our wound continues to fester and will not scab over until this person is found and pays for the sentence of death they gave to Morgan.

It's been two years now. Have you given any consideration to the Vidocq Society? They investigated the death of Leah Freeman. In August of this year her boyfriend was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to prison.

Never give up. Always push on. Somebody knows something. They are not telling out of fear or family.

I pray for Morgan every single night. God Bless the three of you. Dan, Gil and Alex.

I think of you often and remember you in my prayers at night.

Justice for Morgan.

Love, Pippi
