RICHMOND – As the search and investigative efforts continue for missing college student Morgan Harrington, state and local investigators are now able to release additional details concerning the night of her disappearance. Miss Harrington disappeared Oct. 17, 2009, during a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones Arena on the University of Virginia (UVA) campus in Charlottesville, Va.

During the course of the investigation, police have been able to establish a timeline of Miss Harrington’s movements once she ended up outside of the arena at approximately 8:30 p.m. After talking to her friends on her cell phone, she then walked through the parking lot of University Hall and was also seen in the Lannigan Field athlete parking lot, which is also used for RV parking. At around 9:30 p.m., she was seen walking on the Copeley Road bridge near Ivy Road.

Based on independent witness accounts, investigators are confident that Miss Harrington was hitchhiking for a ride while on the Copeley Road bridge. If anyone recalls seeing a young woman hitchhiking that night on or near the Copeley Road bridge, then they are asked to please contact police by phone or email. Anyone who might remember seeing a vehicle randomly stopped in the roadway on Copeley Road bridge that night is also asked to contact investigators. Investigators are also hoping to hear from anyone who might have loaned their cell phone to a young woman fitting Miss Harrington’s description to make a call that night.

My prayers go out to the Harrington Family!!! I have been watching this story since it came out. Somebody knows something somewhere and I pray she will be able to make a safe return. I pray that you will find her no matter what the outcome, just to have closure and/or able to move forward. I think the unknown is the worst pain of all, it is awful enough to lose a child, but to lose them and not know where they are is terrible. Many prayers to you all and good luck!!!

I was at the concert Oct. 17 and wow what a show, but I was disturbed when I got home and heard about Morgan. I have followed the story ever since in hope that someone knew of her were abouts. I even took Ivy Rd. out when I was leaving sometime after 11:30 that night but didn’t see any one fitting her description. Somebody knows something and I wish that they would step forward.

For some reason, this hitch hiking thing is not sounding right to me. It just doesn’t make sense that her purse is found in a weird location, she starts out with a working cell phone, and next thing you know….she’s hitch hiking across a bridge without her purse? Maybe I’m missing something, I don’t know. It just doesn’t fit together yet. My heart and prayers go out for Morgan and her family. Oh dear God, please give these loving parents closure.

I think this is a sad story, I have been following this story from the beginging. I do say I have lost all hope of actuallying finding Morgan alive it has simply been too long. Now I hope and pray that the law enforcment can find out who is responsible for this. I know Morgan is not the only missing person and there are many more across the world that we should all pray for as well. It makes me sick to know that people are capable of so much evil, howvever on the flip side it is wonderful to see all the people that have been following the story and praying for the best outcome. I am a Christian and I do care for all my brothers and sisters and it is nice to see that there are so many people out there who are taking the time out for Morgan. I am surprised on how much is still unknown it this case so many unanswered questions. I hope soon we can get a few of those answered until then I pray that God bless this family and keep them safe I pray that our Lord give them strength to continue on through the hard times amen.

I have to agree with Lis … that her purse and phone w/o the battery were found by the track field and then she is supposedly hitching on a bridge further away without those items – this is not adding up. If Morgan places her items in her purse like my daughter does, plus given the fact of what she was wearing, there would be no other place to store her items that she carries with her – she would not leave them in some random place and then continue on her way. The area where her belongings were found should be more closely investigated for evidence, signs of a struggle, footprints, tire tracks, etc… as the potential spot where happened.

    I hope she is OK.
May the great spirit return Morgan to the loving arms of her family alive.

Why didn’t police give out that very important info in the first few hours/days – it may have helped! Hopefully, it still will a month later…

  9. LD says:

I pray and hope that Morgan will return to her family but I agree that too much of what we’re being ‘told’ doesn’t sound right. Although, IF Morgan was seen hitching a ride on the bridge and IF she was in the spot that the memorial has been set up, that MAY mean that she was picked up either voluntarily or forcibly by someone heading in the direction of JPJ. IF forced, then the perps may have quickly turned into the U-Hall parking lot and threw her purse/cell out the window and MAYBE then, the battery flew out elsewhere. But…I also wonder about one post a friend saw somewhere that mentioned someone fitting Morgan’s description being spotted around 3:30 am near Pavillion 5 with three men? Maybe it was with these men that something went horribly wrong and again her purse/cell were ditched because most likely whomever was involved knew she was supposed to be at the concert that night and in a panic thought best to ditch her purse/cell in that area? All just speculation but what more do we have to go on right now. I’m a mother of a 24 year old daughter and my heart just aches for this family. I just pray that closure of some sort happens sooner rather than later. *sigh*

I was so upset when I first read about this story and have been following it ever since. None of the events make sense but I do hope this new information might bring the Harringtons closer to finder Morgan. Please let’s find her soon!

I was so sad to read and see this video that this poor child’s parents have had to make. Can you post any pictures of what she looked like that evening? Pictures from friends phones or any security photos. It might help anyone/someone remember if they saw her, even if they didn’t think that they did. I mean look at the Elizabeth Smart case Someone took a picture of the three of them crossing the street in Lakeside California because they might have thought that three people in white/covered robes were weird. That person didn’t even know that took a picture of a missing young girl. And what number did she call her friends from when she couldn’t get back in the concert? I know you all know how to do your jobs please don’t take offence. I am just typing out loud. Thank you for reading. I would be devastated if anyone of my children went missing.

  12. Shutterbug says:

Did Morgan grow up with anyone, formerly date anyone or know of someone who now lives in the Charlottesville area who she could call upon for a ride? Have friends brainstormed who she may know in that area and compiled a list for investigators? Are there any pay phones in that area any more? If so, have police checked those?

  13. Irene says:

Just by reading Morgan’s description, just by listening to her parents, her friends story, the cell phone call, and hitchhiking? doesnt make sense to me at all
My heart goes with Morgan’s family, just pray for her safe return.

  14. Annette says:

From what I understand and my son went to school with her at Northside. She was not the type to go hitch hiking. She was a straight A student and very smart. Someone that smart does not hitch hike. She either knew the person in the car or she was forced in there. Yes this does not make any sense. Why would she leave her pocketbook some where else.

Please God let them find her.

  15. Sarah Sisk says:

I agree with Lis. Even though smart people may do stupid things, this story just doesn’t seem right. She “wonders” outside, calls her friends and tells them NOT to help her – next thing you know her purse and cell phone WITHOUT a battery are in the parking garage, then she “hitch-hikes” without her things for a ride home. No… this is not a timeline. This is a wrong direction.

What about the guy in New Jersey? Has he been located and questioned? I don’t even know Morgan or her family, and I find this mystery very frustrating. I can’t even imagine how her family and friends are feeling…

  16. Jeanne Chase says:

    My prayer for Morgan,

Father, I pray for Morgan Harrington. I pray that your would surround her with your angels. I ask that you would make a way for her to break free from her situation so that she can be reunited with her parents. I ask that you would keep her safe ….may she have peace and hope. Give her wisdom, Lord, to do what ever it is that she needs to do. May she feel your presence and your protection. I also pray for her parents that they may find a way to trust in You. Please give them your peace which passes all understanding. I ask that you would give the law enforcement personnel special wisdom and insight so that they can find Morgan. In Jesus Name

  17. Wendy says:

To the family…..I am praying for your daughter’s safe return. Her disappearance hit me hard because at her age I was a frequent concert-goer and she reminds me a lot of myself. So many similarities. It could’ve happened to anyone, I am so sorry it was your daughter. Praying constantly that she will be found safe. God bless.
